- ➤ Amo Café Rose is expanding to a new East Side location at McRae Shopping Center, set to open on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14. Owner Barbara Chavarria said the restaurant will offer a similar pink theme with added steak to meet customer demand. El Paso Times
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Local filmmakers met Wednesday night to call for a local film commissioner to guide the industry amid the vacant position, arguing a local voice is needed to rival other states' film incentives and attract more productions to the city. KFOX14
- ➤ Several events offer something for everyone in El Paso as the weekend nears. A Tom Lea exhibit reception runs today at Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park, the El Paso Opera will perform La Boheme — from Friday, Jan.30 to Saturday, Feb.7 at St. Roger’s Depot, and comedian Gary Owen will bring his No Hard Feelings Tour at the Plaza Theatre on Saturday, Jan.31. ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Southwest University Park will host a job fair at WestStar Club on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Job seekers can apply for roles in guest services, cleaning, and food service and must bring resumes and pass a background check if at least 16. KVIA
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ El Paso Community College unveiled a 42-foot mural at its Mission del Paso campus that celebrates the transformative student journey; EPCC Art Professor Miguel Valenzuela and 50 students created the piece featuring a lion, bird, and locomotive. KFOX14
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ TxDOT announced that full weekend closures (Jan. 31-Feb. 2, Feb. 14-16, Feb. 21-23) will block Purple Heart Memorial Highway between Montana and Spur 601, and the northbound Iron Medics Drive ramp will close for two months after mid-February as crews build a new frontage road. KFOX14

- ➤ Texas Tech Health El Paso is launching a pilot initiative with three free oral health workshops and a cleaning event, supported by the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation, to help improve dental care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; the sessions build on a successful series held last fall. - ➤ El Paso resident Brittany DeSantiago, who has battled kidney disease & dialysis treatments, has found hope after her sister Tiffany was approved as her living donor. Brittany, who finished a recent dialysis session, plans to return to school to complete her master’s degree & support children’s mental health. KVIA
- ➤ Beginning July 1, a new orthopedic residency program at UMC led by Dr. Rajani will admit three residents annually to boost musculoskeletal care in El Paso + reduce patient wait times. By 2030, up to 15 residents are expected to be trained to strengthen local expertise. El Paso Matters
- ➤ El Paso Fire warns residents about increased carbon monoxide risk from heaters and gas appliances this winter — Lt. Juan Acuña advises keeping windows slightly open and installing detectors lower than smoke alarms for proper detection. KVIA
