- ➤ The El Paso Museum of Art will reopen on Valentine’s Day after a $3.5 million upgrade, featuring its first-ever Frida Kahlo—Sus Fotos exhibition and other new shows. The museum will host opening day events from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. KFOX14
- ➤ Mayor Renard Johnson, the city’s first black mayor, reflected on his historic role during Black History Month while celebrating local heritage. He recalled early memories from his time in the community & urged young residents to seize leadership opportunities. KFOX14

- ➤ UTEP President Heather Wilson today announced the Miguel A. Loya Scholarship Program, funded by a $30 million gift to support the engineering program on campus. El Paso Times
- ➤ Socorro ISD is the top-scoring district in the region, according to the Texas Education Agency, with standout STAAR testing performance. Superintendent James Vasquez, who led the district through a $42 million deficit, was named to the National School Public Relations Association's list of Superintendents to Watch. KFOX14
- ➤ Parents in El Paso can now apply for the Texas Education Freedom Accounts program to use state funds for tuition at more than two dozen approved private schools and homeschools. - ➤ Charges against former Socorro ISD trustees Pablo Barrera and Ricardo Castellano and board member Gabriela Castellano were dismissed in early February — prosecutors and defense lawyers agreed the indictments did not state an offense under state law. KVIA
- ➤ Texas Gas customers will see their average bill increase to $14 following a Texas Railroad Commission decision approving a 27% rate hike to cover service and maintenance costs — the change follows an El Paso Water rate hike and a city council rejection of a similar proposal in November 2025. - ➤ The Texas Railroad Commission approved a 27% tax increase on Texas Gas for service costs on Thursday in Austin (raising residential bills by about $10 to $14 per month), a decision that contrasts with a proposal El Paso City Council rejected last November. KFOX14
