BUSINESS NEWS

  • Nearly 900 head of cattle moved from Mexico as they crossed into the U.S. at 3:50 p.m. on Monday, July 7th through the Douglas port in Arizona. Cattle will be inspected thoroughly—receiving anti-parasitic treatment and a three-day quarantine as officials prepare for future crossings at Columbus on July 14th and Santa Teresa on July 21st.  KTSM

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 10 at 4 a.m., masked burglars broke into Puffs To Go Smoke Shop in East El Paso by smashing a window, stealing nearly $3,000 in merchandise and causing about $1,200 in damage; police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers.  El Paso Times
  • On July 2, a detective from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was assaulted during a routine writ service on Tower Hills Drive in east El Paso by 63-year-old Rosana Lara — she fled the scene but was later arrested by the Fugitive Apprehension Unit and booked with a $2,500 bond.  KFOX14
  • A traffic stop by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office on Saturday during their Safe Streets Operation led to a high-speed chase through Socorro, Clint, and Fabens that ended near S. Fabens-Carlsbad Road—where deputies arrested 44-year-old Cesar Alfredo Galindo, seized about 1.1 pounds of methamphetamine, and booked him on charges of vehicle evasion and drug manufacturing with bonds set at $80,000—.  KFOX14
  • Officials said funeral homes using an inoperable crematorium in Juarez gave grieving families boxes with crushed stones and animal ashes instead of human remains (operators Jose Luis A.C. and Facundo M.R. are in custody while forensic experts work to match bodies).  KTSM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of El Paso unveiled its proposed Fiscal Year 2026 budget on July 8, a plan that will offer tax relief for seniors and disabled residents—boost funding for public safety, infrastructure, and workforce wages. The $1.4 billion budget will be voted on Aug 19 and includes a new Code Enforcement Department along with key investments in city services.  KTSM
  • El Paso’s proposed 2026 budget keeps the same tax rate but rising home values will push property tax bills higher by about $100 — the change comes as the city plans to spend more on personnel and services. City Council presentations will start in early July and a vote on the budget is set for Aug 19 — an action following two years of no-new revenue budgets.  El Paso Times

  • The City of El Paso offers four water parks in Sun City with lazy rivers, slides, kiddie pools, and tasty concessions for family fun. Tickets start at $15 and all parks are open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.—Lost Kingdom will host a neon night on July 19.  El Paso Times

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Stacker compiled a list of the best places to live in the El Paso metro area using data from Niche — a ranking that weighs 15 factors including cost of living, housing, public schools, diversity and crime. The list shows El Paso as the top choice with an A- grade and a population of 678,147, followed by Mesilla and Las Cruces.  KVIA

  • Local readers can vote for the most improved high school football team nominated by El Paso Children's Hospital, with teams like Hanks Knights, Coronado Thunderbirds, Andress Eagles, Eastwood Troopers, Americas Trailblazers, Montwood Rams and Parkland Matadors under consideration. Voting starts Tuesday at 7 a.m. and ends Thursday at 3 p.m.—the season begins Thursday, Aug. 28.  El Paso Times
