ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • El Paso Fire answered a call after 11:22 a.m. on Saturday morning when distress was reported on the Mammoth's Trunk Trail in Franklin Mountains State Park and COMSAR rescued a mountain biker with leg and arm injuries by helicopter.  KFOX14

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lucchese released new cowboy boots designed for fans of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies — the boots became available online on August 15. The El Paso-based company is known as the official bootmaker of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders.  El Paso Times

CRIME NEWS

  • On Aug. 30th, TABC agents arrested suspect Trevion Kimbrough at Tipsy Tiger—an East El Paso bar—after a fight turned to gunfire on the patio and injured two people.  KFOX14

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices—expected to rise ahead of Labor Day weekend—are going up in Texas as AAA Texas reports that El Paso drivers pay the highest with regular gas averaging $2.81 a gallon statewide. In New Mexico, fuel costs average $3.05 a gallon while Las Cruces drivers pay at least $3.02 a gallon compared to a national average of $3.21 a gallon.  KVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Sept. 1, 1925, a heavy rainstorm caused a severe flood in El Paso that damaged cropland, homes, and levees along the Rio Grande. In response, U.S. and Mexican officials worked together—through agreements and government projects—to build structures during the Great Depression to protect the border region.  El Paso Times
  • Government offices—including schools, post offices, and banks—will be closed for Labor Day tomorrow, Sept. 1, while retail stores like Walmart, Chick-fil-A, and Sam's along with attractions such as the El Paso Zoo remain open. Municipal offices, libraries, and some clinics are closed, but trash and recycling services will run as usual.  El Paso Times
  • Federal judges will begin hearing challenges to Texas’ redistricting plan Oct. 1 at the Albert Armendariz Sr. United States Courthouse in downtown El Paso—tests that may shape the balance of power in future congressional races. The panel will decide if the plan weakens minority voting rights and may rule to block portions of the map—an action that could affect seat allocations before the 2026 primaries.  El Paso Matters

  • El Paso high school football opened its season as Pebble Hills defeated Canutillo 21-12 and Franklin beat Chapin 41-8 (in Week 1 matchups).  El Paso Times
  • UTEP lost 28—16 to Utah State in their season opener after a blown call hurt the Miners' effort and momentum. The team will host Tennessee-Martin at 7 p.m. on September 6 on ESPN+ as they try to bounce back.  El Paso Times
