CULTURE NEWS

  • Wet N’Wild Waterworld will launch its first-ever Haunted Scaregrounds this fall – the event will run from October 3rd to November 1st and offer two ticket options, themed food and scare actor displays. Season passholders will access exclusive preview nights on September 26th and 27th.  KFOX14
  • Grammy-winning cellist Zuill Bailey and the Balourdet Quartet gave an interactive music lesson at the Boys & Girls Club where kids explored instruments and learned about the science of sound. CEO Anthony Tomasheski said the event was supported by the Great Khalid Foundation—sparking hope for future musical dreams.  KVIA

  • UTEP's Minerpalooza returns today to close welcome week for new and returning students—tickets cost $1 at the door and the event is open to the public. The festival features an artisan plaza, Pete’s Playground for kids, interactive games like big jenga and cornhole, musical performances, a beer and wine garden, food, beverages, and a clear bag policy.  KVIA

  • City officials said a Union Pacific train issue is causing significant delays at all railroad crossings in Horizon — officers are managing traffic as the investigation continues.  KFOX14
  • El Paso Animal Services director Terry Kebschull retires effective Sept. 12 amid criticism and interim director Michael Wachsmann takes over, while first phase improvements at Modesto Gomez Park renovate sports fields with new lighting on 4600 Edna Ave.—Meanwhile, Canutillo ISD adopted a new tax rate, EPCC named new deans during its restructuring, City Council approved $875,000 in incentives for data center cooling startup Ferveret, and EPISD selected TASB to search for a new superintendent.  El Paso Matters

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA has recalled several brands of frozen shrimp due to possible cesium-137 contamination in products sold at major stores including local retailers—no illnesses have been reported as of Sept. 4th. Consumers in El Paso should return or dispose of the recalled shrimp for a full refund.  El Paso Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Americas Trail Blazers beat the Hanks Knights 31-24 at Excalibur Stadium on Thursday and moved to 2-0 as Hanks dropped to 1-1. Americas will meet Pebble Hills next Friday—while Hanks faces Horizon after their bye week.  KFOX14
  • UTEP and Tennessee-Martin will face off in the Sun Bowl today as both teams seek their first win—hoping to boost their offense after season openers. UTEP will have transfer quarterback Malachi Nelson starting at home while Tennessee-Martin puts in transfer quarterback Jase Bauer.  El Paso Times
