- ➤ Dr. Miguel Juarez — an El Paso author — explained that his upcoming book 'Three Ways: Highway Building in Displacement and El Paso, Texas' will explore how highway construction displaced over one thousand local families through practices like redlining and racial covenants, and it will also examine the unique Chamizal settlement. The book will be available for pre-order through the University of North Texas Press and will be released mid-October. KFOX14
- ➤ The El Paso Fire Department held a public 9/11 memorial ceremony on Thursday to honor nearly 3,000 lives lost including 343 firefighters who died in the line of duty. - ➤ UTEP is hosting its annual 9/11 stair climb memorial at Sun Bowl Stadium today with nearly 2,000 participants including Army ROTC, Fort Bliss, law enforcement, and first responders. - ➤ The El Paso American Federation of Teachers questioned EPISD's $3.2 million estimate for keeping Lamar Elementary open, saying the actual cost may be closer to $8 million due to serious structural, electrical, and water issues—problems that need immediate attention. - ➤ TxDOT said the Horizon Darrington Reconstruction Project is divided into four phases—while crews work on installing traffic signals and landscaping on Horizon, work on Darrington such as installing storm sewer boxes and upgrading wastewater lines sometimes seems inactive due to weather and testing needs. The project will finish by fall 2027 and drivers can expect storm sewer work on the southbound lanes soon. KFOX14
- ➤ Supporters gathered outside the El Paso Sector Headquarters on Sept. 10 after a judge ended Catalina “Xóchitl” Santiago’s removal proceedings—Santiago, a DACA recipient who was detained on Aug. 3, was met with chants and signs calling for her release. El Paso Times
