- ➤ El Paso is hosting a series of events for the 215th anniversary of Mexican Independence as the Consul General leads a celebration at the convention center plaza today from 5 to 11 p.m.—community fairs and cultural activities with live music and food are set to follow through Sept. 16. - ➤ The Mexican Consulate General in El Paso worked with the Chihuahua State Tourism Department and Destination El Paso to unveil huge sculptures — the Mata Ortiz Mega Spheres — made by Chihuahua artisans on Friday to mark Mexican Independence. - ➤ A new study by HR&A Advisors projects the proposed Downtown I-10 Deck Plaza will generate 1 billion dollars in economic output over 30 years while creating thousands of construction jobs, hundreds of permanent roles and a new green space. - ➤ The Department of Homeland Security approved several border wall projects in the El Paso Sector aimed at deterring illegal crossings by using a secondary wall project and black paint to reduce rust and high temperatures—Agent Claudio Herrera said these efforts will support border patrol operations although there is no set timeline yet.
