- ➤ El Paso will celebrate Mexican American traditions this weekend at Lincoln Park at 4001 Durazno during the annual Chicano Art and Lowrider Happening—marking the 21st anniversary of Lincoln Park Day with music, food, and new murals honoring artist Gaspar Enriquez and lucha libre star Cassandro. - ➤ On September 16, El Paso declared 'Edgar Scissorhands' Day to honor local barber Edgar Guerrero, who offers sensory-friendly haircuts for kids with autism—he rebuilt his Gentlemen's Barbershop after a car crash last year and now partners with local nonprofits. KFOX14
- ➤ ABC-7 teamed with Albertsons this Hunger Action Month to surprise random customers at a Northeast El Paso store with $50 gift cards as part of the Together in Tough Times campaign—which helps raise funds for the city’s only food bank; the campaign will continue through September 30th. KVIA

- ➤ Tractor Supply Co. is building a new rural lifestyle retailer location at 11110 Dyer St. in Northeast El Paso near North Desert Palms Apartments. The $105,625 Forage Shed project by W.R. Newman and Associates—pending inspections—will start soon and cover a 25x50 foot area. El Paso Times

- ➤ Expressions Dance Academy won 2 national championships at a Disneyland event—earning a second-place finish and 8 top-10 placements while competing against teams from around the world. The academy, which has dancers as young as 4, will hold local shows and partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters on Dance for Kids’ Sake and plan a New York trip featuring a Broadway appearance. KVIA
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Coldplay's two concerts in El Paso boosted total spending to $34.7 million during the weekend of June 13 to 14 and added $6.08 million compared to last year, marking a 21.2% increase in spending. El Paso and UTEP officials praised the strong economic impact—local visitors spent about $171.72 per trip on groceries, dining and retail. El Paso Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Texas Senator Cesar Blanco announced Tuesday that $1,640,000 in state grants from the Texas Veterans Commission’s Fund for Veterans’ Assistance will support veteran organizations in El Paso by funding programs such as veteran treatment courts, transportation, and homeless veteran support — helping local groups serve veterans and their families. - ➤ TxDOT will host a public hearing on the Downtown 10 Project at the El Paso Convention Center from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.—residents can also join online to comment on plans to expand I-10 from Executive Center Boulevard to Copia Street, with $500 million in funding and letting scheduled for late 2027 before construction starts in 2028. - ➤ Doña Ana County commissioners will vote Friday on Project Jupiter, a $165 billion data center campus near Santa Teresa that could create thousands of jobs and boost local construction while raising concerns about water and power supply. Developers plan to use a closed-loop cooling system that needs 10 million gallons of water for a one-time fill—an effort aimed at keeping local electricity bills steady. El Paso Matters
- ➤ El Paso City Council will consider amending a 2020 incentives agreement to let FSW Investments sell 45 acres in Campo del Sol for a new Texas DPS regional headquarters—an 82,000-square-foot facility with an 8,000-square-foot Driver’s License Mega Site, a crime lab and training facilities. The project is expected to support 92 law enforcement agencies, add about 200 new positions, create 1,500 temporary construction jobs and bring $18 million of economic impact to El Paso. KVIA
- ➤ El Paso’s Animal Services said it encourages community-based sheltering by asking residents to temporarily foster found pets and try a 30 day rehoming attempt before surrendering them—except for cases when animals are sick, injured or aggressive, which are accepted immediately. The department reported that on Aug. 31 there were just over 900 animals in shelters while 2,440 were being fostered. El Paso Matters
- ➤ El Paso County Commissioners Court approved a settlement in a wrongful termination suit filed by veteran prosecutor John Briggs, who claimed he was fired in 2022 for refusing to support illegal actions in the Walmart shooting investigation. The settlement—pending Judge Kathleen Cardone's signature—includes a statement that he should not have been fired, giving him the vindication he sought. KVIA
