Officials plan to increase capacity from 1,400 to 2,700 detainees now and up to 5,000 by year’s end. El Paso Times
- ➤ Rep. Jasmine Crockett sent a letter to DHS on Monday raising urgent concerns about inconsistent legal access for detainees at the Fort Bliss ICE detention center — known as Camp East Montana — and requested full legal visitation procedures by Oct. 1. The letter, which follows a visit by Rep. Veronica Escobar and reports of unclear scheduling practices, highlights warnings that detainees risk losing timely access to legal assistance. El Paso Times
- ➤ Today, DHS said that the Washington Post report on Camp East Montana is false and misleading because detainees get proper meals, medical care, and secure housing.
