- ➤ Trader Joe's confirmed it will not open a store in Sun City at this time, so El Paso residents must drive about 275 miles to reach the closest location in Albuquerque. The trip takes roughly 4 hours — the chain operates two stores in Albuquerque and one in Santa Fe. El Paso Times
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Mexican American Cultural Center launched a new program on Sept. 17 to help families record elders’ oral histories that honor their positive contributions to El Paso’s culture. MACC Director Rebecca Muñoz said the program spotlights traditions from Mexico — a reminder that Hispanic heritage enriches our community. KVIA

- ➤ Project Jupiter, a $165 billion data center campus in Santa Teresa, moved forward after the Doña Ana County Commission voted 4-1 to issue industrial revenue bonds, setting up a 30-year deal that will create 2,500 construction jobs and 750 permanent roles. The project faces local concerns over water usage and environmental impact—county officials have 30 days to review the binding agreements. El Paso Matters

- ➤ Fort Bliss officials said they were not informed when the city began using drones made in China and are now reviewing any security risks — while city officials said they remain in contact with Fort Bliss to monitor the system for public safety. KVIA
- ➤ El Paso city released 125 redacted records amid a legal dispute with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton while the county approved a $635.6 million budget for the next fiscal year using reserve funds. Texas DPS will build a new regional headquarters in Northeast and EPISD approved a $25,000 contract for a superintendent search—while the Hispanic Chamber named Gladys Gonzalez as its new CEO and residents may comment on the I-10 widening until Oct. 14.
