- ➤ El Paso residents voiced concerns over Project Jupiter, a $165 billion data center planned near Santa Teresa, New Mexico — they worry that environmental impacts will affect their air, water, and land even as the project promises over 750 jobs and $300 million in tax relief. - ➤ Dozens gathered at Eastwood Park to hold a candlelight vigil for Xavier Hernandez, a 27-year-old who died in police custody on July 13 due to asphyxia from chest compression—his mother Angelina Lujan and family say his death should spur a broader discussion on mental health and police response. - ➤ The City of El Paso opened its renovated Westside Animal Adoption Center with an $8.9 million upgrade that redesigned animal living spaces, kennels, cat exhibit areas and visitor restrooms — and added a modern HVAC system, ADA-compliant amenities, expanded parking and a walking trail for pets. City officials said the project shows the city’s ongoing commitment to improving community animal services. KVIA
