COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Drivers in northwest El Paso will face heavy traffic disruptions as construction crews will close the eastbound lanes of I-10 on Tuesday for the Artcraft project and the westbound lanes from 5 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday for the Widening West project—while work on a six-month project to build a runaway truck ramp on Transmountain will cause lane closures with enhanced warning signage.  KFOX14
  • The Bowen family is preparing to leave Bowen Ranch in the northeastern part of El Paso as the city reclaims the historic 88,000-acre land later this year — a place that hosted community events and supported local services — leaving a lasting legacy for the area.  KFOX14

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A family said their 4-year-old nonverbal autistic daughter was left unattended near Kolhberg Elementary School’s parking lot while her father picked up her siblings, and he has removed her from the school over safety concerns—EPISD officials are reviewing safety protocols as Board President Leah Hanany said improvements are needed to protect vulnerable children.  KFOX14

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The federal shutdown is now in effect and over 18,000 essential federal employees in El Paso—TSA, Border Patrol agents, and federal court staff—will work without pay beginning today. Local officials and lawmakers have set up support measures like zero-interest loans to help affected workers cover gas, groceries, and childcare while urging Senate action to end the shutdown.  KFOX14
  • U.S. and Mexican governments announced a binational initiative named Mission Firewall to curb weapons trafficking along the border—and Ambassador Ronald Johnson said joint inspections, immediate info sharing and expanded investigations will soon begin to stop the illicit arms flow.  KVIA
  • Federal judges in El Paso have begun a nine-day hearing today to decide if Texas can use its new congressional map for the 2026 midterms—advocacy groups say it hurts Black and Hispanic voters while state officials claim it is race-blind and meant to win more GOP seats.
