- ➤ El Paso will host a busy week of community events including the 10th annual Border Folk Festival—featuring Mariachi Los Camperos and Tesoro on Oct. 3 at the Plaza Theatre—Cowboy Boot Day with live country music at San Jacinto Plaza on Oct. 4, the 15th annual Buddy Walk at EPCC starting at 10 a.m. on Oct. 4, and National Summit Day with a guided hike at Franklin Mountains. - ➤ A judge ordered the immediate release of Catalina Santiago, a DACA recipient detained on Aug. 3 at the El Paso International Airport while traveling for work with a local non-profit. The order gives DHS until 4 p.m. today to release her and requires written notification by noon Friday—underscoring that her detention without individualized reasons violated her constitutional rights. - ➤ El Paso County settled a wrongful termination suit with Assistant District Attorney John Briggs who was fired in August 2022 and later sued the district attorney's office for a political scheme. The settlement awards Briggs $75,000, 320 hours of vacation, and over $15,000 in retirement funds along with the return of lost sick days—Briggs also served as a prosecutor in the Walmart shooting case.
