- ➤ Child Crisis Center of El Paso is calling on residents to donate non-perishable food items such as canned vegetables, fruits, beans, baby formula, and hygiene supplies at 2100 N. Stevens from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday as its pantry runs low due to increased demand after a government shutdown paused SNAP benefits. - ➤ The Rescue Mission of El Paso has proposed building tiny homes with basic amenities—bed, chair, air conditioning, and mini refrigerator—to help people facing homelessness transition to a dignified living environment. The organization has reached out to local officials including Major Renard Johnson and Rep. - ➤ El Paso County honored Iraq War veteran James H. Green Jr. as the 2025 Veteran of the Year and WWII veteran Eliseo Fernandez as the Honorary Veteran of the Year at a ceremony on Oct. 27. - ➤ Fatal crashes with drivers 65 and older in Texas have increased by 39 percent since 2015 and made up 18 percent of fatal crashes in 2024; TxDOT has shared safe driving tips such as driving in good weather and checking vision regularly—advice aimed at helping seniors stay safe behind the wheel. A speed study along FM 3255 in El Paso led to a new speed limit of 45 mph over the summer due to more traffic and development—new signs mark the change while some drivers adjust. KFOX14
