COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Chihuahuas and Locomotive FC have partnered with Vista Markets and The Mustard Seed Café to launch a holiday food drive — running until December 1 — to support families in the Borderplex region by gathering monetary donations and non-perishable items; fans will meet team mascots Chico and Ozzy today at Vista Markets and on November 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to receive rewards for their contributions.  KFOX14
  • La Nube, the STEAM center for kids in Downtown El Paso, will become a Winter Wonderland from today until January 4 to offer wintry activities such as building snowmen, making winter slime, and meeting Santa from noon to 3 p.m. The event is supported by a $10,000 donation from GECU — it also provides discounted tickets for educators, military members, and SNAP participants.  KFOX14

CULTURE NEWS

  • Texas International Fashion Week will dazzle El Paso at the Convention Center today as doors open at 7 p.m. + the show starts at 7:45 p.m. and will feature the Top Model of the World USA contest where the winner will travel abroad.  KFOX14
  • Conjunto Primavera and Banda Machos will perform at the Abraham Chavez Theatre on Feb. 6, 2026 as part of their Amor En Dos Estilos Tour in El Paso next year. Tickets will go on sale on Nov. 24 at 10 a.m.—El Paso music fans can look forward to the lively event.  KFOX14

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UTEP will build a $108 million student housing complex after the UT System Board of Regents approved the grant. The new dormitory with 456 beds—featuring a fitness center, lounges, a study room and a dining hall—will open in 2028 on the north side of Kidd Field to meet growing on-campus housing demand.  KFOX14
  • In El Paso, Consul General of Mexico Mauricio Ibarra Ponce de León presented the Ohtli Award to UTEP President Heather Wilson last Thursday for her work in education and support of the Mexican and Mexican-American community—UTEP officials noted her leadership has expanded programs that help Borderland students succeed.  KVIA

  • Local financial experts advise residents to plan a realistic Christmas budget, noting that consumers are expected to spend about $890.49, with around $627.93 on gifts and $262.56 on seasonal items—advice meant to help families avoid overspending and start the new year on solid ground.   • Fort Bliss hosted an uncasing ceremony on November 20 to welcome back the 1st Armored Division after a nine‐month deployment to Eastern Europe where the unit conducted 50 live fire exercises to boost crisis readiness. Maj. Gen. Curtis D. Taylor led the event—six units were honored as their return supports enhanced border and mission readiness with community backing.  El Paso Times
  • This week in El Paso, a new $100 million, 12,500-seat amphitheater broke ground in Northeast and funeral services for local businesswoman Estine Davis will be held Dec. 4-5—while the health department reported more whooping cough cases and progress was made on projects including a $162M cancer center set for fall, an EPISD policy review, a new Socorro ISD tax rate for 2025, and a $108M UTEP student housing complex. Record warm November temperatures also marked the week as local leaders continue planning for the city's future.  El Paso Matters

  • UTEP and NMSU face off in the 102nd Battle of I-10 today at the Sun Bowl — both teams look to break a tough season — with kickoff set for 1 p.m. as close losses and turnover issues have defined their struggles this season.  KFOX14
  • UTEP guard Trey Horton returned to the court on Wednesday after serving his DWI suspension and apologized to his family, teammates, and El Paso fans as the Miners won in overtime against St. Thomas and coach Joe Golding backed him while the team prepares to face William & Mary on Monday — he said he has learned his lesson.  KFOX14
