  • Today, El Pasoans honor MLK with service projects at Esperanza Acosta Moreno Library (12480 Pebble Hills Drive) and a Sunday observance at Praise Temple Full Gospel Baptist Church. Meanwhile, registration is open for the 43rd Senior Games season for adults 50 and older, running from Feb. 21 to Sept. 12.  El Paso Matters
  • Community organizations held a vigil Friday (5 p.m.) at San Jacinto Plaza to honor two detainees who died in federal custody at Camp East Montana; key speakers from local advocacy groups called for accountability as investigations continued.  KFOX14
  • About 10,000 customers are without power in West El Paso, with outages affecting the Sunland Park and South Mesa Hills areas while updates are expected as new details emerge.  KVIA
  • Valle Verde ECHS senior Eveny Covarrubias was named 2025 Youth Volunteer of the Year by Hospice El Paso after volunteering since 2024 with tasks like writing letters, creating crafts & informing the public at health fairs.   • Today, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated a truckload of food to the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank in celebration of the country's 250th birthday. The church is sending 250 trucks nationwide while local leaders and community members attended a brief ceremony.  KVIA

  • Nuevo Uno Cinco, a high-end craft cocktail lounge, opens in downtown at 218 W Franklin Avenue + serving drinks inspired by El Paso's history and fresh local bites while hosting live music and art exhibitions to showcase the city’s culture.  KFOX14
  • The El Paso Pro-Musica Chamber Music Festival celebrates Zuill Bailey’s 25th season as Artistic Director by featuring the Vega Quartet and violinist Helen Kim tomorrow at UTEP Fox Fine Arts Recital Hall at 2:30 p.m.; the festival, running through January, includes Grammy Award-winning Paul Jacobs and the Juilliard String Quartet.  KVIA
  • La Nube celebrated winning the Hands On International Children in Museums Award on Jan. 15 as leaders and benefactors gathered at 201 W. Main Drive to honor its accessible, interactive STEAM exhibits (it is one of only three U.S. children’s museums to earn the award).  El Paso Times
  • Blue Angels officials visited El Paso on Jan. 14 to inspect the MSSG Amigo Airsho site at Fort Bliss. The team will return to perform on Oct. 24 to 25 as they coordinate school visits and safety measures for a safe, exciting air show.  El Paso Times

  • Bowie High School celebrated students with perfect attendance through its 'Attendance All-Stars' event (Attendance Battle Championship Belt) by awarding Camila Fernandez a Nintendo Switch for maintaining her record since October.  KFOX14

  • Local leaders and migrant advocacy groups held a press conference at the El Paso County Courthouse on Friday to address federal immigration raids reported at construction sites in El Paso + Horizon City + Santa Teresa. REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A water main break last Saturday left Candy Arellano's home — on Gschwind Street — uninhabitable, displacing her family of 10 while the utility provided hotel accommodations and offered to buy the property. The family will retrieve belongings Tuesday as they await a buyout decision.  KFOX14

SPORTS NEWS

  • Cheering erupted during a meet-and-greet in Northeast El Paso as world champion boxer Stephanie Han was introduced while a full replay of her WBA title fight played + she retained her title.  El Paso Times
  • Former UTEP quarterbacks Malachi Nelson and Skyler Locklear committed to new schools ahead of the 2026 season — Nelson to Syracuse Orange and Locklear to Missouri State. Their moves leave UTEP with fewer experienced quarterbacks this season.  KFOX14
  • On Thursday the UTEP Miners beat the Delaware Blue Hens 70 to 69 as Kaseem Watson scored 20 points and secured their first road win, and they face Liberty today against the reigning CUSA champions.  KFOX14
