- ➤ Residents in northwest voiced traffic and safety concerns at a Reyes Elementary meeting as Canutillo ISD prepares to build a new Alderete Middle School campus near growing neighborhoods. The district completed traffic studies and is working with the city — residents expect construction measures will adequately address rising traffic. KVIA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A power outage disrupted Fort Bliss Saturday and affected West Bliss, Pershing Heights, North Main Post, La Noria, Aero Vista, Chamizal Vista and Corregidor, as Rio Grande Electric was en route to restore service — cause and duration remain unclear. KFOX14

- ➤ A winter storm disrupted local high school sports on Saturday, Jan. 24, canceling tennis tournaments and softball scrimmages and leading to the cancellation of Sunland Park's nine-race card; a decision on today's horse racing awaits improved weather (morning horse training was also halted). - ➤ UTEP men's basketball lost its 10-point halftime lead on Saturday at the Don Haskins Center, falling 62-57 to Missouri State when a missed 3-pointer with 2 seconds left ended their comeback effort. Missouri State opened the second half with a strong run that turned the game in their favor. El Paso Times
