- ➤ Peter Piper Pizza will offer its heart-shaped pizzas from February through Mar. 1 in El Paso (and other regional markets), with $1 from each $15.99 sale benefiting the Children's Miracle Network to support local hospitals. The pizzas are available for in-store, delivery, and carryout. KFOX14

- ➤ American Idol returns with Season 24 as local country singer Julian Kalel’s audition airs on Feb. 2 at 6 p.m. MT on ABC (streaming will follow on Hulu). Kalel shared his excitement on Instagram ahead of the broadcast. El Paso Times
- ➤ Four chefs were named 2026 James Beard Award semifinalists, including local contender Andres Pablos at Accá in Central El Paso, the Padillas of Café Piro in Socorro, and a chef from Ardovino's Desert Crossing in Sunland Park—Taconeta also advanced in the Wine and Other Beverages Program. - ➤ El Paso Electric seeks approval from regulators to build a 366-MW natural gas facility (called McCloud) to power Meta’s data center expected to be operational by 2027, raising concerns among local officials and environmental groups about higher rates and increased pollution. KVIA

- ➤ An external audit for Fabens ISD revealed $41,000 in unauthorized credit card charges from Sept. 20-24 to late June last year. Investigators suspect a former employee may have altered the statement to remove casino charges & the school board said the audit now limits the district's financial rating to C. KFOX14
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ In December, record warmth challenged local crops as farmers in El Paso and nearby areas adjusted planting due to delayed first freezes and early summer crop growth (including unexpected Bermuda grass activity).
