- ➤ Last Thursday, El Pasoans gathered at the Pioneers 21 event to honor four local innovators for their creative work in the community; the ceremony recognized significant contributions and talent. El Paso Inc.
- ➤ El Paso will host spring concerts at Sun Bowl Stadium with BTS performing on May 2 and 3, followed by Post Malone and Jelly Roll on May 13. UTEP has introduced a new fan guide to improve the event experience after last year's technical challenges. KFOX14
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UTEP professor Dr. Jose Hurtado is mapping the moon with NASA for the Artemis II mission that will land astronauts on the moon's south pole in 2027. NASA is testing its rocket for the weeklong mission from Houston. KFOX14
- ➤ Mariachi los Gatos Salvajes of Fabens High School earned a Division I rating at the West Texas Mariachi Festival held Saturday at Eastwood High School—qualifying them to compete at the UIL State Mariachi Festival in Seguin from Feb. 18—20. KFOX14
- ➤ The EPISD Board approved the 2026 Resign/Retire Early Notification Incentive Program on Monday to support staffing and budget planning for the upcoming school year. Eligible employees can earn up to $3,000 (if written notice is received by Feb. 20, or $1,500 if received by Feb. 27) when resigning or retiring at the end of their assignment year. KVIA
- ➤ Teams from Valle Verde Early College High School and Northwest Early College High School earned their spots after ranking as Region 19 Champion and Runner-up; they will compete in the State High School Mock Trial Competition in Dallas on March 6-7. KVIA

- ➤ TxDOT closed lanes on I-10, Loop 375, and nearby roads beginning Feb. 2 with crews repairing and installing safety features. Drivers are advised to follow detour signs & check updated maps and cameras as work continues until Feb. 7. KFOX14

- ➤ El Paso public health officials offer free A1C screenings to check for diabetes and pre-diabetes every Tuesday in February from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—today at Chamizal Community Center, Feb. 10 at Galatzan, Feb. 17 at Marty Robbins and Feb. 24 at Rae Gilmore Recreation Centers. KVIA
- ➤ UMC announced that Victor Waters, MD, JD, FCLM, with over 35 years’ experience in internal & emergency medicine, becomes its new chief medical officer today in El Paso and replaces Dr. Joel Hendryx; he brings expertise from his recent role at Dignity Health Arizona's West Valley and West Gate markets. - ➤ UTEP Miners will visit Sam Houston tomorrow after Jacob Walker scored 20 points to help secure an 83-67 win for the home team against Louisiana Tech. The season opener continues the teams’ rivalry as local fans gear up for the action. El Paso Inc.
- ➤ The UIL (University Interscholastic League) has realigned high school sports for the 2026-28 cycle, moving Andress from Class 5A to Class 4A and joining it with Austin, Riverside, Ysleta, and San Elizario for football while adjusting matchups for other Class 5A teams. El Paso Times
