- ➤ Two EISD students, Jillina Pomales + Alexa Hernandez, will perform as finalists at the TMEA All-State Choir finals in San Antonio; Pomales is the first from her school to qualify since 1981. KFOX14
- ➤ The El Paso Independent School District is scheduling community meetings in February to gather local input on future priorities and will offer translation services (for Spanish speakers). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Documents released by the Justice Department show that a private border wall was built in Sunland Park near El Paso over Memorial Day weekend in 2019 without proper permits (officials said offices were closed at the time). Local leaders later expressed concerns about this unauthorized construction. El Paso Times
- ➤ Gina Hinojosa, a leading candidate for governor, spoke on Jan. 31 in East El Paso and said Gov. Abbott’s policies cause tax hikes, school closures and rising costs, plus they include no bid contracts that waste taxpayer money. El Paso Times
- ➤ TxDOT is improving Socorro Road between Wynn Road and Belen Street — the upgrades include new concrete sidewalks, ADA curb ramps, updated pavement markings, enhanced lighting, a landscaped buffer, and revised traffic signals. The project began last fall and will finish this summer. KFOX14

- ➤ UIL announced new district alignments for the 2026-2028 football seasons on Feb. 3 that affect local schools, with Hanks and Horizon moving up from 5A Division II to 5A Division I while Andress shifted from 5A Division II to 4A following last season. KFOX14
