- ➤ The Outlet Shoppes and El Pasoans Fighting Hunger will launch Food Fight from Feb. 7 through Feb. 14, allowing shoppers to drop receipts at local vendors to fight hunger — 10% of the receipts will be donated and the winning vendor earns the Golden Asparagus trophy. KVIA
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The El Paso Downtown Arts District was nominated by USA Today as one of the top ten arts districts for its art deco design and cultural landmarks. Residents are encouraged to vote before Feb. 16 to support their local creative community. KFOX14
- ➤ Argentine rapper Cazzu will perform at the El Paso County Coliseum on May 14 as part of her first U.S. tour added due to fan demand, and tickets go on sale today (10 a.m. on LiveNation.com). El Paso Times
- ➤ Jazmine Ulloa, a New York Times reporter and Burges High School graduate, will return to El Paso to discuss her book on the city's history, hosted by El Paso Matters & the El Paso Community Foundation at 7 p.m. Monday, March 9 at the Philanthropy Theatre in Downtown. El Paso Matters
- ➤ El Paso hosts events this February. Conjunto Primavera and Banda Machos play at Abraham Chavez Theatre on Feb. 6 while La Boheme runs through Feb. 7 at St. Roger’s Depot — a collectibles show at the Radisson and Tuff Hedeman bull riding is set for Feb. 21 at the Coliseum. El Paso Times
- ➤ Several community events are planned this week including an animal enrichment event at the El Paso Zoo where African lion Hodari will predict the Super Bowl winner on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 3:30 p.m., and a Black History Month speaker series at the Downtown Visitor Center on Sunday, Feb. 8. - ➤ The Texas Education Agency released new rules for local schools about student walkouts and political activism that disrupt class – schools must mark students absent and risk losing funds while teachers may be investigated. The guidelines respond to Governor Abbott's directive to protect public school learning environments. KVIA

- ➤ The El Paso ISD board approved an early resignation and retirement incentive program on Feb. 4 to help plan staffing for the upcoming school year. Eligible instructional staff and central office workers (paygrades 101-112) can earn $3000 with a notice by Feb. 20 or $1500 with a notice by Feb. 27. El Paso Times
