- ➤ The El Paso Police Department celebrated its 139th academy graduation on Friday at the Starlight Event Center. Graduates like Joseph Gonzalez, who expressed pride in serving his community, will begin peace officer duties tomorrow — Super Bowl Sunday. KFOX14

- ➤ El Paso Community Foundation announced a two-day festival called Sol Summit that will take place May 2-3 at San Jacinto Plaza. It will feature headliners Bomba Estéreo and The Flaming Lips along with family-friendly activities, and tickets went on sale Friday, Feb. 6. El Paso Times
- ➤ El Paso’s iconic Star on the Mountain was lit in yellow and white on Feb. 6 to celebrate Post Malone’s upcoming show at the Sun Bowl on May 13. Live Nation (in partnership with the El Paso Chamber) organized the event. El Paso Times
- ➤ Historian David Romo explained that El Paso played a strategic role during the Mexican Revolution as Pancho Villa used the city for recruitment and shelter. UTEP’s Claudia Rivers added that the era inspires extensive research, with dozens of books focused on Villa and the revolution's impact. KFOX14

- ➤ El Paso High School held its Spring Fiesta Parade on Friday in the school’s main hall, featuring the Spring Fiesta Royal Court and various student clubs. About 80 students joined the event, setting the stage for the upcoming Spring Fiesta dance. KFOX14
- ➤ Loretto Academy teacher Cecilia Cortez was named Texas High School Teacher of the Year by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops Education Department for her work teaching dance, theater, health and communications (underscoring her lifelong ties to the academy) at a diocesan celebration. KVIA

- ➤ El Paso Fire Chief Jonathan Killings will be honored today with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the El Paso Black Hall of Fame at the Starlight Event Center, recognizing nearly three decades of service and his role as the department's first Black chief. El Paso Matters
- ➤ The Railroad Commission approved a rate hike for Texas Gas Service that will raise small residential bills by 10% and large residential bills by 19%—costing about $3.64 and $11.30 more each month. City officials are reviewing the decision as one of three utility increases affecting local customers. El Paso Times
- ➤ A federal investigation found no misconduct by a UTEP professor in an aerospace grant application that could have brought $160M to expand local manufacturing, but funding was lost when the grant was suspended. The professor now is launching a state-of-the-art aerospace venture to boost the industry. El Paso Matters
- ➤ UTEP received a record $30M donation from alumnus Miguel Loya to fund engineering scholarships with fall applications, EPCC granted its president a 3% raise, and the city approved contracts to resurface 78 miles of streets + County is hiring lifeguards for pools with a fair on Saturday, Mar. 7.
