BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dell’s $4B startup (in partnership with El Paso Electric and Base Power Company) will offer no-cost home battery backup systems to strengthen grid reliability and meet rising power demand in El Paso.  El Paso Inc.

CULTURE NEWS

  • Paranormal Cirque will stage its cabaret horror show in West El Paso at The Shoppes at Solana parking lot for four nights starting Friday at 7:30 p.m.—with additional shows on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Feb. 23. The event is for adults and minors must attend with a guardian.  KFOX14
  • The El Paso Symphony Orchestra will present Prokofiev’s ‘Peter and the Wolf’ at Plaza Theatre on Saturday, March 7 at 1:30 p.m. as part of Downtown Kids Music Day, partnering with the Youth Opera of El Paso and La Nube to offer discounted family tickets.  KFOX14
  • El Paso Museum of Art reopened on Feb. 14 with new exhibits featuring Frida Kahlo — Sus Fotos alongside Suzi Davidoff’s Wander and local artist Mitsumasa Overstreet’s Desert Rinpa. The exhibits will stay open through May 17 and offer free admission.  KVIA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • During Tuesday night, Canutillo ISD approved hiring for two executive roles (Deputy Superintendent and Executive Director of Communications) despite one trustee voting against the motion; officials did not release further details on duties or pay.  KFOX14

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • El Paso is undergoing major construction projects including a new VA hospital (part of healthcare expansion), roadway improvements, and new fire stations. Officials say the projects will boost infrastructure and public services.  El Paso Inc.
  • El Paso Water said a 24-inch main was hit by a contractor near Dyer and Sean Haggerty, lowering water pressure for some customers as crews work to check service (exact numbers are still unknown).  KVIA
  • El Paso Water placed metal plates over water main repairs — drivers are advised to slow down to protect their tires — as paving is expected to finish by month’s end near Westwind Drive. Neighbors report difficulty navigating the temporary metal covers.  KVIA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Trainer Justin Evans said Express Kid finished a close second by a nose in the $500,000 Sunland Derby on Feb. 15 at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino and will meet with Paradise Equine Farm later this week to explore race options including Arkansas, Kentucky or the Preakness Stakes.  El Paso Times
  • On opening night of the UIL playoffs, five local girls basketball teams advanced to the area round after winning their games; scores include Franklin 45+ Odessa Permian 36 and Eastwood 61+ Frenship 71.  KVIA
  • On Feb. 16, El Paso high school basketball games saw Franklin top Odessa Permian 45-36, Eastlake beat Midland Legacy 27-26, Friendship outlast Eastwood 71-61, and Chapin defeat Bel Air 46-30 while Riverside outscored Austin 41-30; in baseball, Eastwood, Bel Air and other teams recorded wins with key pitching performances.  El Paso Times
