  • Civil rights icon Rev. Jesse Jackson, remembered for his local activism for migrant children during a 1984 visit and related efforts, died at 84 on Feb. 17 at 10:46 a.m. His legacy continues to inspire community advocates in El Paso.  El Paso Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Police stayed at Franklin High School after a non-credible threat triggered a lockdown Tuesday morning; EPISD confirmed students and staff were safe & law enforcement remained on site as a precaution.  KFOX14

  • Carlos Santana and The Doobie Brothers will perform at the Don Haskins Center on Aug. 26 as part of their Oneness Tour; ticket presales began Tuesday at 10 a.m., and general sales start Friday at 10 a.m. (Live Nation announced the event.)  KFOX14
  • Mexican pop singer Cristian Castro will perform his Nada Solo Exitos 2026 world tour at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the El Paso County Coliseum. Ticket presale runs Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. — general sale starts Friday at 10 a.m.  KFOX14
  • Carlos Santana and the Doobie Brothers will perform at UTEP (Don Haskins Center) on Aug.16 as part of their newly announced Oneness Tour. Presale tickets for Citi cardmembers began Tuesday and general sales start on Feb.20.  KVIA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Strong winds swept through El Paso today, knocking down trees and blowing dust while reports noted trampolines being blown around (a high wind advisory is in effect until 8 p.m.).  KFOX14

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Advocates gathered outside City Hall on Tuesday to call for a new ordinance that will require pigeon-trapping businesses to register and be monitored for humane treatment (petition circulating online), and local trapper Juan Ortiz said he follows the law by removing birds from private areas.  KFOX14

HEALTH NEWS

  • El Paso immigration attorney Carlos Spector returned home on Tuesday via air ambulance from Houston to begin hospice care, following more than $30,000 raised from community donations. His daughter said plans for a foundation to honor his legacy are underway — more details will be shared soon.  El Paso Matters

SPORTS NEWS

  • El Paso County Coliseum will host the Tuff Hedeman bull riding tour event on Saturday at 8 p.m. Fans can join a tailgate party on the north end + enjoy a night of nonstop rodeo action.  KFOX14
  • The Montwood boys basketball team won 50-45 against Franklin on Feb. 17, tying for a District 1-6A play-in spot. Charlie Perez led with 14 points & the Rams capped their regular season with strong free throws and key three-pointers.  El Paso Times
  • The Eastwood Troopers beat the Eastlake Falcons Tuesday (31-24), creating a four-way tie for second in District 1 6A; a meeting is set for Wednesday to determine tie-breakers.  KFOX14
