  • KVIA-Channel 7 anchor Paul Cicala announced he is stepping away from journalism because of his own health issues and his father's worsening condition. He plans to pursue day shift jobs and may return to Tucson while remaining grateful for his time in El Paso.  El Paso Times
  • The Center Against Sexual and Family Violence reports a rise in digital dating abuse among middle schoolers during Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. CASFV is hosting the Chalk About Love event on Feb. 25 at the Enrique Moreno County Courthouse at 12 p.m. to support affected families.  KVIA

  • Pop singer Cristian Castro will headline his Nada Solo Exitos World Tour at 8 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the El Paso County Coliseum, with tickets going on sale at 10 a.m. today + select fans may already have presale access.  El Paso Times
  • Event organizers announced that attendees can get free admission to El Paso Comic Con 2026 on Friday, May 1 with Mango Cannabis sponsoring extended hours at the El Paso convention center. The event features panels, celebrity guests, gaming & family-friendly activities.  El Paso Times
  • Literarity Book Shop will close after nine years on El Paso’s Westside — owners Bill and Mary Anna Clark said operations will wind down over the next three months. The independent bookstore championed Borderland authors and community dialogue, leaving a cultural void for local readers.  El Paso Matters
  • The Broadway production of The Wiz opened on Feb. 18 at Plaza Theatre with a vibrant retelling of Oz and its 50th anniversary celebration. It will perform today at 8 p.m. and continue Saturday (2 and 8 p.m.) and Sunday (1 and 6:30 p.m.) with dance numbers and classic tunes.  El Paso Times
  • The NOH8 Campaign invites community members to join a photoshoot on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Borderland Rainbow Center from 2—4 p.m. Participants must wear a plain white shirt, and solo photos cost $40.  El Paso Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Educators in El Paso and Las Cruces can apply for grants of up to $1,000 from The Classroom Fund; applications must be submitted by Mar. 22.  El Paso Inc.

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildlife experts say that border wall construction may harm endangered species and disrupt the vital El Paso (Ciudad Juárez) biological corridor. Local advocates urge careful review of the project as it could negatively affect both the ecosystem and geological records.  KVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews have begun resurfacing and road repairs along Vista del Sol Drive in East El Paso as part of a $4.2 million project—funded by the Community Progress Bond Program—that includes ADA upgrades and older pavement repairs; work will finish by the end of 2026.  KFOX14

HEALTH NEWS

  • Las Palmas Medical Center and Del Sol Medical Center were named among the top 5% of hospitals nationwide by Healthgrades for their clinical outcomes (and patient experience) and they emphasize local commitment to care excellence.  El Paso Inc.
  • A study by the Journal of the American Heart Association found that staying up late may raise heart disease risks for adults due to a misaligned body clock (circadian misalignment) and higher stress hormones. ABC-7 will discuss heart health tips for night owls at 10 p.m.  KVIA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michelob Ultra El Paso Marathon returns to its roots at San Jacinto Plaza on Feb. 22, with the marathon starting at 7 a.m., the half marathon at 7:20 a.m., and the 5K at 7:40 a.m. Road closures will affect nearby streets from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.  El Paso Times
