EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Children’s Grief Center of El Paso will open Braden’s Home of Hope at 2616 Montana Ave next week to offer peer support and therapy for grieving youth, while the UT System cut $6 million from UTEP’s student housing budget as construction is set to begin this spring with more beds.  El Paso Matters
  • UTEP announced it received $2 million from the federal government to boost its drone testing and expand operations infrastructure on campus. The funding will help enhance research capabilities and support future projects.  El Paso Times
  • UTEP student Jesus Guillermo Reyes became the first UTEP miner to join the Warner Bros. Ambassador Program, where he will promote the studio’s films and organize events for UTEP students until December + he impressed representatives with his passion for El Paso’s arts scene.  KVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Public Utility Commission of Texas approved an amended rate increase for El Paso Electric on Friday that will raise customer bills by about $13.71 per month to fund new projects (final rates await official details).  KFOX14

  • Windy season has returned to the desert, causing increased allergy symptoms in El Paso as dust and strong gusts affect residents, doctors report. Medical experts advise keeping inhalers ready + limiting outdoor time during high winds to manage symptoms.  KFOX14
