COMMUNITY NEWS

  • George Acosta was named the new Executive Director at the Kelly Center for Hunger Relief, bringing 15 years of expertise from nonprofits and government organizations (including his role at El Pasoans Fighting Hunger). He will guide initiatives to improve access to food in the community.  KVIA
  • Homes For Our Troops held a community kickoff ceremony Saturday — marking the start of building an accessible home — for injured Army Staff Sgt. Pascual Delgado in El Paso. The new mortgage-free home will have a roll-in shower and digital HVAC controls so Delgado can live with renewed independence.  KVIA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mexican rock band Elefante is on its 30th anniversary tour. The all-ages concert will take place on Mar. 15 at the Lowbrow Palace (1006 Texas Ave) with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the show starting at 8 p.m.  El Paso Times

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Texas regulators approved an electric rate increase that is expected to raise residential bills by about $13.71 monthly; final rate details will be released soon. The change is retroactive to July 1, 2025.  El Paso Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ysleta Independent School District hosted an academic conference for parents where they explored resources including a state-of-the-art career center, AI in classrooms, college opportunities and managing university costs. Superintendent Xavier De La Torre hoped community leaders and educators joined forces to support student success.  KVIA
  • El Paso Water hosted hundreds of families at the TecH2O Learning Center in far East El Paso Saturday, celebrating National Engineers Week. The event provided hands-on engineering experiences and raised funds for two local nonprofits.  KVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • James Talarico, candidate for U.S. Senate and current representative of District 50, visited Camp East Montana Saturday, meeting local leaders and supporters. The former teacher (with a deep understanding of border issues) urged comprehensive immigration reform and accountability from political donors.  KVIA

  • At the Battle of I-10 men's basketball game on Saturday at UTEP, NMSU secured a 67–63 win — a result marked by a brief postgame shoving match between players.  El Paso Times
