CULTURE NEWS

  • Illuminated landscaping and art light up I-10 in East El Paso after a Thursday night ceremony hosted by TxDOT. The project, begun in Sept. 2024, features Franklin Mountains, star medallions and sun beam sculptures + officials Lily Limon and Iliana Holguin were present, with crews set to add final touches soon.  KFOX14

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ruben Escajeda from Socorro Early College earned his associate degree from EPCC in December 2025, marking SISD’s 3,000th milestone. He will graduate in June and plans to study at the University of Texas at San Antonio — a step that builds on his strong academic record.  KVIA
  • UTEP Aerospace Center signed an educational partnership agreement with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center to expand STEM education, research, and workforce development in our community. The deal will connect students and faculty with real-world resources (equipment sharing and expert training) to boost innovation.  KFOX14
  • Borderland students from IDEA Rio Vista and IDEA Mesa Hills were surprised on March 5 with UTEP Excellence Scholarships worth up to $8,000 per student to support their college education at UTEP. The awards recognized each student's academic achievements.  KFOX14

  • The Catholic Diocese of El Paso filed for Chapter 11 Friday amid mounting deficits and litigation costs from abuse claims; it will hold a press conference to discuss plans to maintain wages, insurance, and utilities for its churches, schools, and ministries.  KFOX14

SPORTS NEWS

  • Stephanie Han will defend her lightweight title in a rematch against Holly Holm on May 30 at the El Paso County Coliseum—part of Most Valuable Promotions' MVPW global boxing events. The fight will air nationally on ESPN.  KVIA
  • Five individuals are planned for induction into the El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2026, with a ceremony on Aug. 2 at the Wyndham Hotel—honoring notable players and coaches who made key contributions to the local game.  El Paso Times
  • El Paso Locomotives begin their eighth season today at 7 p.m. at Southwest University Park against Colorado Springs, with new manager Junior González planning to boost defense and sharpen offense—tickets are available online from $16 to $53.  El Paso Times
