  • Desert Spoon Food Hub marks 10 years in El Paso as a family business offering local organic produce online and at Spoon Flower Grocery on Yandell Dr. It also launches Taster Space (a free kids program in March) and gives SNAP users 50% off fruits and vegetables for food equity.  KFOX14
  • Community leaders launched the Elevate the 10 campaign on Wednesday to invite residents to share ideas for a downtown deck plaza over I-10 — offering public meetings, neighborhood events and digital updates from the Downtown Deck Plaza Foundation.   • Poppies Fest returns today at the El Paso Museum of Archaeology with free guided hikes starting at 5 p.m. and weekend cultural performances from March 13 to 15 + featuring local artisans and Native American traditions in a new festival-weekend format.  El Paso Matters

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA Texas said El Paso gas prices hit $3.53 per gallon on March 11 amid rising global oil tensions and seasonal demand. The prices, now the highest among 27 major Texas markets, are up 6 cents from yesterday *market pressures*.  El Paso Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UTEP researchers led by Dr. Océane Da Cunha have used a three-dimensional printed rattlesnake replica (testing 38 species at the El Paso Zoo) to learn why the rattlesnake rattle has lasted millions of years.  KVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Public Service Board directed El Paso Water to update projections for a proposed detention facility in Socorro after lawmakers raised concerns the facility could use over 1M gallons daily (straining local groundwater and ratepayer finances); engineers will review Lower Valley Water District growth data to determine needed infrastructure changes.  KFOX14
  • City Council has asked residents to share their thoughts on new guidelines for data center developments. The first open house is set for Mar. 23 at Don Haskins Recreation Center from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and guidelines will be revealed later this spring.  KFOX14

  • ABC-7 joined the El Paso Center for Diabetes on Wednesday, March 11 for a telethon that showcased a resource hotline, free A1C testing, and cooking classes for diabetes education—connecting community members with experts and support for healthy living.  KVIA

  • El Paso Housing Finance Corporation’s Mi Casa Homebuyer Grant Program invites 35 renters to apply for assistance covering full down payments and closing costs, easing the burden of rising rents. Applicants (with a minimum 640 credit score and income limits met) must live in the city to qualify.  KFOX14
