  • A new drive-thru car wash by Mister Car Wash will open on Lee Trevino Drive in East El Paso. The $2.5 million project is on a vacant lot at 1329 Lee Trevino Drive near Bank of America, Firestone, Home Depot Garden Center and Pho 24.  El Paso Times
  • Shipley Donuts, a Houston-based franchise, will open its first El Paso store this spring at Zaraplex on N. Zaragoza Road. Owner Angie Silva is hiring over 40 workers, and candidates can apply in person (8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily) until the shop opens.  El Paso Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Comedian John Mulaney will bring his Mister Whatever tour to the Abraham Chavez theatre on Nov. 19 at 7:30 pm; pre-sale tickets are available starting today at 10 am with general tickets going on sale March 27 at 10 am.  KVIA
  • Chilean-Mexican singer Mon Laferte will perform at UTEP’s Don Haskins Center on Oct. 23 during her Femme Fatale Tour, and tickets go on sale on March 27 at 10 a.m. + the stop is part of her North American tour.  KFOX14

EDUCATION NEWS

  • El Paso Community College and UTEP kicked off Operation College Bound on Monday, Mar. 23 at Chapin High School as part of a 26-stop enrollment roadshow that helped students register for summer and fall classes. Organizers aim to simplify the college registration process at local high schools.  KVIA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wastewater treatment facility in West El Paso spilled about 670,000 gallons on Tuesday at 12:10 a.m. at the John T. Hickerson Treatment Plant near the Rio Grande; officials said there was no health risk as cleanup measures are underway.  KFOX14

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sun Metro will unveil its first zero-emission electric fleet later this morning at the LIFT facility off Fred Wilson & spend $11 million from the Federal Transit Administration to add 45 new vehicles, with a 9 a.m. ribbon-cutting and new charging stations on display & serving paratransit riders.  KFOX14

HEALTH NEWS

  • Emergence Health Network and the Boys and Girls Club of El Paso have launched the Mind Lab at 801 South Florence Street in Segundo Barrio to support young people’s mental health (an open house was held on March 24 at 10 a.m.).  KVIA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local high school sports saw playoff matches in soccer, baseball and softball on March 23 and 24. Ysleta won in soccer with a late goal by Adrian Escalante + Bel Air secured a win through penalty kicks as several teams ended their seasons with strong records.  El Paso Times
