COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This morning, Fort Bliss National Cemetery hosted a respectful funeral for unaccompanied veteran Private First Class Billy Don Carter. The Veterans Assistance Office (led by County Veterans Service Officer Antoinette Hunt) organized the service, which featured a 9 gun salute and the playing of Taps to honor his legacy.  KVIA
  • El Paso will invest $4 million to expand water production at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Desalination Plant on Montana Ave with funds from the Texas Military Preparedness Commission & Sherilyn Guerrero promoted a new WWE-licensed clothing line honoring her father's legacy ahead of WrestleMania weekend.  El Paso Matters
  • A new $80 million amphitheater in Northeast El Paso is set to open in early 2027 even though work has not yet started at the former Cohen Stadium site. The city is contributing $31 million + final design work will finish soon so construction is expected to begin shortly.  KFOX14

CULTURE NEWS

  • Brazilian DJ Mochakk will perform a high-energy set at McKelligon Canyon on April 24 at 6 p.m. as part of Detour, a J&K Presents concert series, with tickets priced at $99.85 plus fees.  El Paso Times
  • Sherilyn Guerrero spoke with media on March 26 about her father Eddie Guerrero’s ties to our community at Pro Wrestling Legacy, reflecting on the celebrated wrestler's local impact.  El Paso Times
  • Local couple Aaron Carman and Diana Martell face travel issues as BTS World Tour concerts will be at Sun Bowl Stadium on May 2 and May 3, overlapping with their wedding; guests are expected to struggle with high hotel prices & limited accommodations, possibly keeping 20 to 25 from attending.  KVIA

EDUCATION NEWS

  • El Paso Independent School District will restructure its College, Career and Technology Academy by moving it from a central campus to four high school campuses so students can attend classes closer to home. The board approved the change Tuesday, and teachers will relocate to ensure support at each site.  KFOX14

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Army is testing a $87 million 3D-printed barracks project on Fort Bliss that aims to cut construction times from years + months, a move that could bring modern housing to the base faster.  El Paso Inc.
  • TxDOT announced that several road segments including I-10 and nearby intersections will be closed for road repairs and new roadway work from March 23 to April 5. Crews will work on detours, lane shifts & concrete paving with some closures set to continue until further notice.  KFOX14

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gabriela Rodríguez Álvarez, a 21-year-old EPCC student, shared her lupus testimony at an international congress in Baja California. She detailed challenges with limited care options (urging better access to treatment) for border patients.  KVIA

  • Yesterday, the El Paso Chihuahuas started their 13th season with a game against the Sacramento River Cats at 7:45 p.m. MT, available on 600 ESPN + MiLB.TV; the team will host a six-game homestand at Southwest University Park on Tuesday.  El Paso Times
