COMMUNITY NEWS

  • El Paso is ranked No. 2 for best large city to live in by U.S. News and World Report for 2025 — 26 after being evaluated on quality of life, affordability, and job market. City officials said they will focus on infrastructure, safety, and economic opportunities to improve community well-being.  KFOX14

CULTURE NEWS

  • El Paso residents saw the musical Six (a humorous retelling of King Henry VIII's wives' stories) at the Plaza Theatre on Sunday, April 5. It was the final show of the Broadway in El Paso season and drew an excited crowd.  El Paso Times
  • In 1925, daredevil Lockwood drove 100 hours non-stop through El Paso and Juarez while handcuffed to his car for a $3,000 prize (about $56,000 today). Despite fueling on the move and large crowds lining streets, he nearly collapsed near Pioneer Plaza before receiving medical care.  El Paso Times

  • Since opening new offices in January, UTEP’s Diana Natalicio Institute for Hispanic Student Success continues to build on its founder’s legacy by using research and data to boost support for Hispanic students on campus (a key effort to enhance academic opportunities).  El Paso Inc.

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A resident beaver lives at Rio Bosque Wetlands Park and has built several dams and dens, drawing local interest. UTEP park officials say the beaver will be more active when water releases start later this season (May or June).  El Paso Matters

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • El Paso International Airport will launch new AI parking technology on Wednesday, Apr. 8 to offer a ticket-free experience using a QR code and recognition-based system+automatic payment when exiting the lot. The update aims to reduce delays and streamline travel for passengers.  El Paso Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • WeightWatchers Med+ in El Paso now offers Novo Nordisk's Wegovy pill, the first FDA‑approved oral GLP‑1 for weight loss, for $149 per month for eligible patients. Prescriptions must be filled by April 15 and require an online consultation.  El Paso Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino wrapped up its 2026 horse racing meet on Sunday, with Dick Cappellucci's Avery Place winning the Mine That Bird Derby and Vodka Vodka earning his first win in the Sunland Park Handicap, while Marking Canyon and Lil Kool Panther secured stakes victories.  El Paso Times
  • Local pro boxer Ivy Enriquez improved her unbeaten record to 7-0 by defeating Chastity Roberts in Allentown, while Eastwood High wrestler Hailey Delgado won a gold medal (and the Golden Boot) at the Under-17 Pan American Championships in Panama City on Friday.  El Paso Times
