Good morning, El Paso. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 7th of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • ABC-7 honored Senior Master Sergeant Noel Ramirez on Military Monday for 26-year Air Force service with deployments to Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Afghanistan. A 1990 Irvin High School graduate with a Master’s from The University of Oklahoma, Ramirez now serves as the Department of Veterans Affairs Contracting Officer.  KVIA

  • The YMCA of El Paso announced its Bowling Family YMCA branch will close on May 15 because its lease ended after serving the Northeast since 1959. A farewell event is planned on May 12 (members can transfer to other locations with a free first month).  KFOX14

CULTURE NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • El Paso Water contained a wastewater spill after 950,000 gallons leaked from a broken 30-inch line on the 10600 block of Railroad Drive in Northeast; crews began cleaning and disinfecting the northbound shoulder between S. Angora Loop and Oates Drive and confirmed that drinking water services were unaffected.  KFOX14
  • Fire officials warn that West El Paso neighborhoods with increased vegetation, including Santa Teresa, may face higher fire risks as warmer weather boosts brush buildup. The region is reviewing measures as fire season approaches — past incidents underline the need for clear jurisdiction between local and Sunland Park fire services.  KVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday morning, contractors blasted the south side of Mount Cristo Rey to prepare a border wall near El Paso. The project follows last June's waiver of environmental laws and will affect the annual Good Friday pilgrimage (local residents are concerned about the impact on this cherished landmark).  KVIA
