EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro, P.C. gifted $5 million to UTEP for a new law school, adding to $10 million raised after a $5 million challenge grant from the Paul L. Foster Family Foundation. UTEP will seek approval from the University of Texas System Board of Regents and Texas Legislature during the 2027 session.  KVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Five members of the Texas State Board of Education are calling for an investigation into an undisclosed $70k cash grant tied to the TEKS review. The board alleges the Texas Public Policy Foundation awarded the grant to the Texas Center at Schreiner University (led by Content Advisor Donald Frazier), raising ethical concerns.  KVIA
  • On Wednesday, El Paso International Airport launched a QR code and AI powered parking system in a partnership with Metropolis. The new system lets users register with their license plate number to pay for parking while current pricing remains unchanged and staff are available 24/7.  KFOX14

HEALTH NEWS

  • Two surgeons at Texas Tech Health El Paso are working to reduce amputations by offering limb preservation and reconstruction for patients with diabetes complications and lower-extremity conditions. They build a team-based approach to improve outcomes for local patients affected by rising diabetes rates.  KVIA
  • University Medical Center of El Paso has upgraded its surgical fleet with the Da Vinci 5 robot to improve minimally invasive surgeries. The new system (featuring haptic feedback and a dual teaching console) helps speed recovery and enhance resident training.  KVIA
