  • Farmworker advocacy groups gathered in central El Paso on Tuesday, Apr. 7 to discuss challenges faced by farmworker women and call on the government to recognize them as essential workers and push for immigration and labor reforms (including ending family detention and improving workplace conditions).  KFOX14

  • Rosie Juárez will release her memoir 'His Niece' today from Redeemed Ink Press and appear at local bookstores later this month. She will sign books at Nook Bookstore Café and Margin Notes Bookbar (Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, Apr. 25).  El Paso Matters
  • BTS will hold sold-out shows in El Paso on May 2-3 as part of their ARIRANG world tour—following their record-breaking kickoff on April 9 in Goyang, and fans can look forward to official merchandise, although the signature light stick has largely sold out.  El Paso Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UTEP announced a $10 million donation to support developing a law school on campus. The funding, from Tawney, Acosta & Chaparro, P.C. and the Paul L. Foster Family Foundation, will help meet a $20 million need and guide a request in the 2027 legislative session.  El Paso Times
  • El Paso Community College earned Gold Military Friendly status on Thursday and now supports over 3,000 service members, veterans and their families with tailored admissions and advisory programs (including eight-week evening classes offered with Fort Bliss).  KVIA
  • UTEP College of Education has launched its first fully online doctoral program in education leadership & administration for working educators. The program offers flexible study options for advanced training.  El Paso Inc.

  • The El Paso Fire Department earned an ISO Class 1 fire protection rating from the Insurance Services Office, placing it among the top 1% of departments for safety. This result underscores a strong commitment to high fire protection standards.  El Paso Inc.
  • City director Randy Garcia explained that traffic lights are timed using a citywide system that gives busier roads extra green time and side streets longer red lights to manage traffic flow. Residents are asked to report malfunctions via 3-1-1 and follow posted speeds for efficient travel.  KFOX14
