  • Flamingos Vintage Pound, a chain from Barcelona, opened in Downtown El Paso at 116 S Stanton St. on March 22 offering vintage clothing sold by the pound at $9.99 per pound — the store is managed by local native Sofia Dominguez who returned after eight years in Houston and runs it Sunday-Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  El Paso Times

CRIME NEWS

  • El Paso Police responded to an unattended death at the 11700 block of Ronald McNair yesterday and identified 74-year-old Victor Contreras as the victim—detectives arrested 39-year-old Jaime Adrian Contreras on a $2,000,000 bond in what is the eighth murder of 2025.  KVIA
  • A 39-year-old man was arrested Monday in connection with the suspicious unattended death of 74-year-old Victor Gerardo Contreras on the 11700 block of Ronald McNair Drive in East El Paso—police called it the city's eighth murder of 2025 and his bond was set to $2,000,000.  KFOX14

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The El Paso Central Appraisal District sent out reappraisal notices that raised single-family values by 10.9% and commercial properties by 11.4%, though rates for homes are capped at 10%. Property owners who disagree with their valuations can protest until May 15—whichever is later, and they may file in person, by mail, fax, email, or online.  El Paso Matters
  • El Paso City Council met today to review federal, state and local funding options for the Downtown I-10 Deck Plaza project and to consider raising the agenda threshold for budget transfers from $500,000 to $1.5 million. City Manager Dionne Mack will update the council on funding streams while Rep. Josh Acevedo proposed that grocery stores offer physical discount coupons to ensure fair access for all customers.  El Paso Times
  • An El Paso nonprofit called Estrella del Paso was notified by the U.S. Department of Justice that it must permanently end its Legal Orientation Program and Immigration Court Helpdesk today—services that help migrants facing deportation with legal access at detention centers and local courts.  KTSM

HEALTH NEWS

  • A measles case was confirmed at Hanks High School in East El Paso yesterday — health officials are investigating contacts while Ysleta ISD notified parents and began fogging campuses for safety.  KVIA
  • El Paso Hospital District received its first installment of bond money for expanding critical care facilities at the main campus — adding new beds, operating rooms and an observation unit — as part of a $395 million voter-approved bond from last November. The funds must be used mostly within three years, with the remaining balance by 2028.  KFOX14
  • At Monday's meeting, the County Commissioner's Court received a public health update on measles after five cases were confirmed in the area—Dr. Hector Ocaranza stressed vaccination as the best method to stop further infections and noted that free walk-in clinics offer vaccines Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  KFOX14
