GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The New Mexico Supreme Court ruled on Friday that El Paso Electric cannot recover losses from rates later invalidated. The court said the utility should have asked for a stay or interim rates (protecting due process) instead of seeking retroactive price changes. KVIA
- ➤ TxDOT is progressing with the nearly seven-mile Borderland Expressway second phase from Martin Luther King Drive at the New Mexico line to Railroad Drive near the Union Pacific line. The $300 million project will ease Interstate 10 congestion and stimulate new commercial development. El Paso Times
- ➤ El Paso Water purchased a 300-acre tract in the Upper Valley last month to preserve open space but did not inspect a 117-year-old dam now at risk of failing, prompting the agency to drain the reservoir and close nearby businesses as a safety precaution. El Paso Matters
- ➤ TxDOT officials announced a 48-hour closure of I-10 eastbound from 3 a.m. Saturday until 3 a.m. Monday along the route between Anthony (NM) and Los Mochis to allow crews to shift traffic lanes for demolition and reconstruction; drivers should use alternate routes. KVIA
