  • More than two dozen veterans from El Paso and Las Cruces took a trip to Washington DC this week to visit the Korean and Vietnam War memorials — one Korean War veteran and 30 Vietnam War veterans were among the group. ABC 7's Doppler Dave Speelman covered the trip and captured the veterans' emotional memories as they honored their service.  KVIA
  • On April 27, El Paso Matters was named Newsroom of the Year by Texas Managing Editors—making it the first online-only nonprofit news outlet to earn this honor. The organization also secured 12 additional statewide awards during the ceremony in San Antonio.  El Paso Matters
  • Today, Make a Wish El Paso granted its 1,000th wish to five-year-old Colton, who suffers from congenital heart disease, during the annual Walk for Wishes in El Paso + he will travel to Disney World this summer.  KVIA
  • Cherry Hill School hosted its 4th Annual Touch a Truck event in El Paso to educate children about the powerful machines that keep our community running—featuring fire trucks, police cars, a helicopter, bounce houses, face painting and food vendors, with all proceeds going to The Hill School’s scholarship programs, curriculum needs and technology updates.  KVIA
  • The Rio Grande Honor Flight 19 returned to El Paso this evening carrying over 30 Vietnam veterans who were welcomed with cheers, music, and signs at the airport. Veterans walked to a live performance by the Fort Bliss 1st armored division band—organizers said more flights will be planned as long as there are veterans to honor.  KVIA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The El Paso mariachi band Mariachi Leyenda Azteca's vehicle was hit by baseball size hail as it drove home from a performance near Carlsbad on Friday night—damaging its equipment—and although no one was hurt, band member Jessica Delgado said she feared for her life when hail shattered the windows while director Jose Pompa said repairs may cost thousands.  KVIA

  • El Paso police are asking for help in identifying a man in his 20's with a dark complexion—seen riding a BMX bicycle at 4 a.m. on March 9—who stole over $6,000 in jewelry from a kiosk at Cielo Vista Mall.  KFOX14

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. District Judge David Briones in El Paso ruled on April 25 that ICE should no longer detain Julio Cesar Sanchez Puentes and Luddis Norelia Sanchez Garcia after finding they lacked a lawful basis for holding them under the Alien Enemies Act—he ordered their release so they could return to Washington, D.C. where they have lived with their three children since 2022.  El Paso Times

  • El Paso Parkland High School grad Deion Hankins will join the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent after not being selected in the NFL Draft held April 24 to 26+ he set city rushing records at Parkland and played at UTEP and Texas State.  El Paso Times
