CULTURE NEWS

  • BTS will perform on May 2 and 3 in El Paso as part of their ARIRANG world tour. The band—known for hits like Butter and Dynamite—recently opened its U.S. leg in Tampa and will bring a familiar setlist to local fans.  El Paso Times
  • Karol G added a second El Paso show at the Sun Bowl on Saturday, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 6; tickets went on sale last Wednesday at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster and UTEP Box Office, costing $144 to $776 + fees.  El Paso Times
  • Cool Canyon Nights returns for its 16th season at McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre. The free event begins at 6:00 p.m. at the El Paso Community College Career and Technical Education Patio Stage with VIP upgrades available online for reserved seating, complimentary hors d'oeuvres & beverage.  KLAQ
  • El Paso’s 90th Sun Bowl Parade will take place on Thanksgiving morning at 10 a.m. on Montana Avenue, featuring a 'Famous Sports & Movie Scenes' theme with Amigo Man as grand marshal and Estine Davis honored as organizers extend a three-year sponsorship with Glasheen, Valles & Inderman Injury Lawyers.  KFOX14
  • The El Paso Community Foundation is hosting Sol Summit, a family-friendly music festival with Flaming Lips, Bomba Estereo, and Sparta this weekend at downtown. Gates open at 2:30 p.m. near Mills and Oregon and Mesa and Main where concerts, food vendors and a makers market will be available.  El Paso Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UTEP and EPISD are launching a paid summer internship program for EPISD high school students on the UTEP campus starting this June, offering roles in departments such as admissions, athletics, and special events. Students will apply and interview for one of the 13 placements (one per school) through July.  El Paso Times
  • EPCC and UTEP continue their 15-year auto-graduation program that awards eligible students with associate degrees while they pursue bachelor’s studies. The program quietly tracks student progress (even surprising some with an unexpected credential) and boosts workforce readiness in El Paso.  El Paso Matters

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two solar canopies were unveiled yesterday at the El Paso International Airport parking and rental car center to provide shade and reduce energy costs by 22 percent. The project, partly funded by federal grants (FAA and DOE contributions), is expected to lower parked cars' temperatures.  KVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Texas Department of Transportation is executing road closures in El Paso — Artcraft Road is closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through today and the I-10 West on-ramp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Friday, with restrictions on Mesa, Dyer and other routes impacting Borderland travel.  El Paso Times

HEALTH NEWS

  • A local clinic announced it will stop accepting traditional insurance and shift to a cash-only membership model with fees of $350 for a new consultation (or $50 or $150 per month, or $1,800 annually). Families are worried about paying more for care, especially for children with chronic conditions.  KFOX14
