ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 53-year-old man died when his white pickup truck rolled over early Saturday, May 3, at the intersection of Perlite Drive & South Ascencion Street in East El Paso County as officials cited impairment, excessive speed & failure to wear a seatbelt as possible factors.  KTSM

CRIME NEWS

  • El Paso police are seeking help identifying suspects in a vehicle burglary that occurred on April 24 near a Wells Fargo ATM and a Speedway Convenience store—suspects in a dark-colored SUV broke a Ford Explorer's window and stole cash from the victim.  KFOX14

CULTURE NEWS

  • Anime El Paso will take place at the El Paso Convention Center on June 14th and 15th and will feature a cosplay contest, vendor booths, and voice actor appearances including Dante Basco (ticket prices vary by day).  KVIA
  • At the Texas Managing Editors convention in San Antonio, the El Paso Times earned eight journalism awards for its coverage—ranging from the Ruidoso wildfires to border immigration—while out-of-state judges reviewed entries published from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. Local outlets El Paso Inc. and non-profit El Paso Matters also received top honors in competitive categories.  El Paso Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Annabelle Casas — a native El Pasoan with over 25 years of public service, including leadership in Municipal Courts and Environmental Services — is named the new director for the Municipal Court today. She will oversee Class C misdemeanor cases to ensure fair and efficient justice for the community.  KTSM
  • On May 3, 9,368 votes were cast in the May 2025 Uniform Election—only 3% of the 319,025 registered voters—across races for school board, community college board, and local government seats.  KVIA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Two El Paso nurses are recognized for their volunteer work during hurricanes; Alejandro Nuñez spent two weeks last year in North Carolina caring for patients and distributing supplies—while Sharleen Betancourt assisted Florida medical teams at Sarasota Doctors Hospital.  KVIA
  • El Paso officials reported 43 measles cases linked to unvaccinated individuals—over half are women, 27 are adults (including two hospitalized) and about a dozen are children aged four and under. Free vaccines are available at all City of El Paso community clinics as experts stress the importance of vaccination.  KVIA
