COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City crews have been installing pride-themed decorations on downtown streetlights — from Franklin to Missouri avenues — to celebrate Pride Month. The project started the week of May 18 and will continue next week to create a welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors.  KFOX14
  • Jose Magdaleno, a Vietnam veteran, received his long-awaited Purple Heart last Friday in a ceremony hosted by the El Paso Military Resiliency Center—family and fellow veterans honored his service.  KFOX14
  • Volunteers can help place flags today at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in honor of veterans ahead of a Memorial Day ceremony at 9 a.m. on Monday. The cemetery holds over 40,000 headstones & 65,000 burials, inviting community members to show their support.  KVIA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • El Paso Fire Department crews responded to a Condition 2 fire near Dyer Street - Lincoln Avenue on Friday morning and quickly knocked down the flames while checking for hotspots.  KFOX14
  • A fire burned in construction workers' sleeping quarters in Juárez on Friday near the Bridge of the Americas in south-central El Paso, starting around noon + wooden structures were damaged with no injuries reported.  KVIA

CULTURE NEWS

  • El Paso will host a busy summer of concerts and festivals from June to December, featuring headliners such as Caifanes, Air Supply, and Karol G at venues like Plaza Theatre and Don Haskins Center; more events will be announced as the schedule updates.  KFOX14

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local auto shops have raised synthetic oil changes to $70-$80 from last year's $50-$60 due to rising oil barrel costs and supply chain disruptions linked to a Middle Eastern conflict (some drivers now opt to do their own maintenance).  KFOX14

EDUCATION NEWS

  • IDEA Public Schools will serve breakfast and lunch for children under 18 at select campuses from May 26 to July 31. Breakfast is offered Monday to Friday at 7:30 a.m. and lunch at 11 a.m., except on federal holidays including June 19 and June 29 to July 4.  KVIA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials are preparing to sell the historic A.B. Fall Mansion in Central El Paso, with the listing process expected to begin soon.  El Paso Inc.
  • El Paso Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team handles mental health 911 calls using volunteer officers to connect distressed callers with help and avoid jail or hospital visits. The program—started in 2019—has diverted 98% of cases while planning to expand staffing and vehicle support.  KFOX14
  • El Paso Border Patrol held a ceremony on May 21 at the Socorro ISD Student Activities Complex to honor 161 fallen agents, including 28 local officers, with speeches, parachute landings, a 21-gun salute & a riderless horse procession.  El Paso Times
