EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Every Little Blessing Preschool builds *inclusive* classrooms where children with and without Down syndrome learn together. Teachers use structured lessons and play-based activities to build skills and independence for kids aged 12 months to 6 years, preparing them for kindergarten. KFOX14
- ➤ At a board meeting last week, Ysleta ISD trustees learned of a $16.7M deficit and $57.6M in urgent repairs, prompting trustee Hernandez to press for community talks on campus consolidation before the June 30 budget decision. - ➤ Grasshoppers that have swarmed neighborhoods are expected to decline in coming weeks as temperatures rise, while ticks continue to appear, local experts say. NMSU professor Scott Bundy linked the surge to extra winter rainfall, & Kern Place Veterinary Hospital advised pet owners to watch for ticks. KFOX14

- ➤ TxDOT is scheduling multiple road closures and detours on I-10, Loop 375 and other corridors from May 24 through June 2 to finish widening, paving and safety projects. Drivers should expect delays and follow posted detour signs — especially near routes in Anthony, Vinton and Mesquite Hills. KFOX14
- ➤ SNAP cuts from House Resolution 1 lowered participation by 13 percent and may worsen food insecurity in El Paso where a 40 percent poverty rate means children lose school meals; Interim President Chris Yagel of El Pasoans Fighting Hunger said food banks will boost sourcing to meet demand. KVIA

- ➤ El Paso Children’s Hospital notes that a national shortage of pediatric specialists is forcing longer wait times for families seeking specialty care for children, and some parents are having to travel farther for treatment (data shows many specialists nearing retirement). KFOX14
- ➤ El Paso Leadership Academy is offering free licensed mental health services on its Segundo Barrio and East Side campuses through a TTUHSCEP partnership throughout the school year. The academy will host a free summer workshop called The Bridge in mid-June + families can learn about stress navigation and self-awareness. KVIA
- ➤ A 9-year-old boy suffered a severe asthma attack on April 7 and received rapid help from Life Ambulance crews and specialized care at El Paso Children’s Hospital — he was taken off life support after four days and soon resumed school and football. KVIA
- ➤ Texas Tech doctor Dr. Nils Nickel is leading a national study in El Paso to test a new IV medicine called TS23 for pulmonary embolism that could simplify lung care by reducing the need for specialized equipment. The study will expand local access to clinical trials. KVIA
