ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Downed fiber optic utility lines in a construction zone near Mesa Street closed I-10 in both directions in West El Paso Monday morning, and drivers exited at Redd + Mesa while TxDOT has not provided an estimated reopen time.  KFOX14

CRIME NEWS

  • A 41-year-old man died after his car was struck by an SUV attempting a U-turn at the intersection of Doniphan Drive and Redd Road in Upper Valley at about 8:42 p.m.—police are still investigating the crash.  KFOX14

CULTURE NEWS

  • Marco Antonio Solis, known as El Buki, will bring his Mas Cerca De Ti World Tour 2025 to El Paso on Aug 30 at UTEP Don Haskins Center—tickets go on sale Tuesday for Citi Cardmembers, Wednesday for the aisle seat presale, Thursday for the Live Nation presale and Friday for the general public.  KFOX14

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UTEP and Texas Tech Health Sciences Center El Paso announced today their third Medfuture cohort for high school seniors aiming to study science and medicine - selected students receive conditional acceptance to the Foster School of Medicine after graduating. The program targets those who commit to serve the Borderland - a focused step to nurture our future healthcare professionals.  KVIA
  • Socorro ISD started a free summer meal program on Monday that offers children under 18 a meal from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday at several schools—no fees or proof of income is needed and the program runs until June 26.  KFOX14

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • El Paso County Commissioners Court reviewed data showing high fire risks and severe drought ahead of Fourth of July for potential fireworks restrictions. The meeting was held on Monday, June 9 at 9:30 a.m.—the options included taking no action, restricting certain fireworks based on drought levels, or allowing a local disaster declaration if needed.  KFOX14

HEALTH NEWS

  • The El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation raised over $52,000 through its Miracle Balloon Campaign in partnership with Costco to support critical care for local children. The campaign saw a 30% increase from last year as Costco employees organized themed calendar days to boost donations.  KTSM

  • UTEP men's basketball coach Joe Golding will remain at UTEP through 2028—pending board approval on Aug. 20—after an 18-15 season and a Conference USA tournament quarterfinal finish.  El Paso Times
