- ➤ A Fort Bliss soldier, Juan Del Valle Ferrer, had his request for a bond reduction denied after a judge ruled he was a flight risk in a November drunk driving crash that killed teacher Dalia Olivas and her fiancé Rick Ballard at the intersection of Rojas and Eastlake — his trial is set for December 12. - ➤ Gerardo Iván Morales hosted a book talk and signing at the El Paso Main Public Library where he read from the memoir Detained: A Boy's Journal of Survival and Resilience, which recounts pseudonymous D. Esperanza’s journey from Honduras through the Tornillo detention center. The memoir—part of a Texas book tour by Nuestra Palabra—details his train ride on La Bestia and will have a Spanish audiobook release on Aug 19. El Paso Times

- ➤ UTEP is launching the nation’s first AI-focused master’s degree for educators starting in Fall to help teachers use AI for instruction and to simplify classroom work. The fully online 16-month program—developed by Dr. Olga Kosheleva—requires no GRE and prepares graduates for careers in curriculum development, school leadership, and education policy. KFOX14
- ➤ Bowie High School celebrated its Class of 2025 — a total of 245 graduates received their diplomas during a ceremony on June 10 at the Don Haskins Center, with many students sharing hugs with Principal Rose Gandrailla.
