EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ EPISD held a special board meeting yesterday at 11:30 a.m. at its Administration Building to review a budget that shows a $23 million deficit but may drop to about $11 million with new state funds—$8.5 billion provided by House Bill 2—and possible salary increases if enough money is received. The district must adopt this budget by June 18. KFOX14
- ➤ Franklin High School’s Class of 2025 held its commencement ceremony at the Don Haskins Center on June 11, where late football player Emmanuel Lopez was honored with a reserved front-row seat — displaying his portrait, cap and gown — and the class adopted his number as its motto. - ➤ House Bill 2 passed on June 4 and gives Texas public schools $8.5 billion, which includes a $55 increase per student and funds for teacher raises, special education, and school safety improvements. El Paso ISD will see its gap drop from nearly $30 million to $11.7 million—although teachers say the pay boost does not keep up with rising costs and officials plan to cut roles to balance the budget.
