  • El Paso Community College and Texas Women Veterans held an event on Friday at EPCC to honor women veterans with a speech by Army veteran Dr. Paula Mitchell and a color guard performance from Bowie High School. Maria Gonzalez said her group will open a VA Health Clinic for women's health and add a museum wing to show veterans' contributions.  KVIA

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A person was pulled from the Rio Grande Sunday evening near Fonseca and Yarbrough along Border Highway in the Lower Valley and taken to a hospital with serious injuries, an El Paso Fire spokesperson said—rescue efforts were made immediately.  KTSM
  • El Paso Fire rescued one person from the levee near Ascarate Park just after 6 p.m. on Sunday + took them to a local hospital for serious injuries.  KVIA

CRIME NEWS

  • El Paso Police arrested Michael Edward Abeyta, 47, for driving an 2018 black Kia Forte with an unholstered gun near a protest at the 7000 block of Edgemere—he faces seven outstanding traffic warrants and was taken to the county detention facility on a $4,416.56 bond.  KVIA

CULTURE NEWS

  • Coldplay held two concerts at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso where the band, joined by local musician Jim Ward and performers Elyanna and Willow, gave fans memorable moments including surprise proposals and mountain views. The band received a key to the city from Mayor Renard Johnson—an honor that was celebrated during the shows—while social media captured the unforgettable events.  El Paso Times

  • After a disturbance at a New Jersey ICE detention center last Thursday that included four men escaping, officials transferred about 50 women detainees to a tent-like facility in El Paso.
