  • Gerald Gallegos, 68, was arrested in El Paso after a social media video showed him hitting and swinging a dog, and he faces charges for cruelty to non-livestock animals+ this marks his third felony offense.  KFOX14
  • A 15-year-old from Far East El Paso told police he was locked in his room with no food, water or proper bathroom access for 10 years—police said his adoptive parents, Richard and Nora Ramirez, were arrested for unlawful restraint after a June 11 welfare check.  KFOX14
  • El Paso police arrested Richard and Nora Ramirez on Friday for unlawfully restraining their adopted 15-year-old son—locked in his room since age 5 and forced to use it as a restroom—following a welfare check on June 11 in Far East El Paso.  El Paso Times

  • Coldplay released a video showing their sold-out Sun Bowl shows on June 13-14 that highlighted El Paso's vibrant sunsets—mountain views and emotional moments among over 50,000 fans were captured. The British band performed its Music of the Spheres tour and locals praised the touching scenes on social media.  El Paso Times
  • The Wild West Food Fest will come to DeadBeach Brewery this Saturday from noon to 11 p.m.—over 35 vendors will offer food and retail items with seasonal draft beers inside, live DJ’s, BBQ demos, and a kid’s space available at the free event.  KFOX14

  • El Paso ISD paused hiring for central office positions to protect classroom funds—over 90 unfilled roles were cut and non-essential travel was halted to help meet a $17 million shortfall.  KTSM
  • Socorro ISD interviewed candidates for a new superintendent during Tuesday's special meeting—continuing a search that began last March when former leader Nate Carman was placed on leave. Interim Superintendent James Vasquez also submitted his name, and the district hopes to name a permanent leader by the end of this month.  KFOX14

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials in El Paso and Juarez urge residents to stay cool as triple-digit temperatures will persist for the next few days—El Paso County has opened cooling centers from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. while some neighborhoods in Juarez face water shortages and lack transportation to reach these centers.  KTSM

  • El Dorado HS running back Ryan Estrada, one of our top recruits who rushed for 2,261 yards last season, committed to the University of Minnesota on Tuesday, June 17 and will play as a senior this season before graduating in 2026—he chose Minnesota for its strong football culture.  El Paso Times
