- ➤ The El Paso and Apache Junction police departments honored fallen officer Gabriel Facio (an El Paso native who served nearly four years) after he was fatally shot during a traffic stop on June 8 and died from his injuries; his funeral was held at Cielo Vista Church (the accused faces first degree murder charges). EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ El Paso's three largest school districts will receive $147.3M in new state funds over the biennium from 2026 to 2027 under House Bill 2, which will support maintenance+operations, teacher pay, and special education services. EPISD will get $54.6M, SISD $50.5M, and YISD $42.2M as the funding addresses challenges such as rising costs and declining enrollment. KFOX14
- ➤ El Paso Independent School District approved a $547M operating budget for the 2025-2026 school year with a $6M deficit and new pay raises for teachers, librarians, nurses, and activity managers. The board said the plan increases teacher salaries as set by state law & boosts non-instructional pay by 1.5% while raising health care premiums by 15% to manage long-term costs. KFOX14
