CRIME NEWS

  • El Paso police arrested Robert Joseph Privett, a Northeast resident in his 20s, on a murder charge and placed him on a $1 million bond at the El Paso County Jail—his bond hearing is scheduled for Wednesday—while details on any link to the June 20 incident at Nations Tobin Park remain unclear.  El Paso Times
  • The police bomb squad is investigating a suspicious item found in the parking lot of the training academy in far East El Paso and authorities temporarily closed nearby streets—including those at the East Montana Patrol Station and the jail annex—as a safety precaution, urging the public to avoid the area.  KVIA
  • The Mesilla Marshal’s Office arrested 44-year-old Denise Pedraza Webb on fraud and identity theft charges after she was booked in Dona Ana County on Friday, June 20th for opening fake bank accounts, stealing $10,000 from a victim’s account, and taking a car from a dealership+ authorities said more charges will be filed.  KTSM

  • On Saturday, June 21, the El Paso Swim and Cruise Fashion Show showcased work from 14 designers from El Paso, Cancún, Cairo, Juárez, and Mexico City at the Fountains at Farah — the show brought a range of swimwear, pool party outfits, and summer dresses for the hot desert weather.  El Paso Times

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • El Paso Water will receive Rio Grande water only from early June until August this year, which is much shorter than the usual March through October season+ the utility will pump more groundwater to meet the high summer demand while customers may notice slight changes in taste as treated water from different sources mixes.  El Paso Matters

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed House Bill 2038 that will let experienced foreign-trained doctors practice without repeating a full residency. The law offers a two-year provisional license pathway for qualified doctors—this measure aims to boost physician numbers in underserved areas like El Paso.  KTSM

SPORTS NEWS

  • El Paso and Las Cruces amateur boxers did well at the USA Boxing Junior Olympics in Las Vegas on June 21—Sergio Enriquez and Daisy Enriquez won first place in their classes and Moises Rodriguez came in second. Bouts at the Ballpark will return to Southwest University Park on Oct. 11 as local fans watch an eight-round title fight between Victor “Jalapeño” Hernandez and Tope Musa Tajudeen.  El Paso Times
