  • More than 200 people gathered on June 26 to name the upgraded skatepark in honor of Lizbeth Avila, a 22-year-old skater who died in August 2021—her family now promotes safe skating practices. The park features new ramps and a mural of her face — local officials provided free helmets to encourage safe riding.  El Paso Times

  • Starting July 1, Sarah Fresh Factory in El Paso will switch to producing only A2A2 milk—designed to offer a natural dairy option that may help people with milk sensitivities. CRIME NEWS

  • Police said eyewitnesses and video evidence placed the 22 year old suspect — Robert Joseph Privett — at a Northeast El Paso park during a morning shooting on June 20 that killed 34 year old Jose Gonzalez Jr. and injured two 22 year old men before he was arrested and charged with murder.  KFOX14

  • Young artist Citlali Delgado and local students restored a vibrant mural along Sixth Avenue in Segundo Barrio as part of the new Segundo Barrio Mural Project. The project, led by veteran muralists Jesus Cimi Alvarado and Francisco Delgado, unites past and future to preserve local art and share community history—empowering youth to learn about their heritage.  El Paso Matters

  • A house bill became law that lets UTEP use student union fees to demolish the old building and build a modern facility while requiring any future fee increase to be approved by students; the change takes effect on September 1 with a phased fee structure starting in Spring 2026 — voters backed the fee raise in a campus referendum.  KFOX14

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • El Paso officials and El Paso Water are tackling flood issues near Palomino Street and Laramie Circle with plans for new drainage improvements—construction will begin in August and be completed in six months to channel stormwater and prevent trash blockages. HEALTH NEWS

  • Texas Tech Health El Paso and Project Vida have reduced student absenteeism by 35% in Far West Texas schools using a telehealth program that brings specialized care to school nurses. The Campus Care initiative, supported by a $3 million federal grant secured by Rep. Veronica Escobar, has also improved access to physical and mental health services in districts with few local health resources—boosting overall student performance.  El Paso Matters

  • On June 6, the city of El Paso put the historic Albert B. Fall mansion on the market and has received one offer so far. Built in 1907 and renovated for $1.2 million, the vacant mansion is zoned for apartment development—pending City Council approval on the sale.  KFOX14
